In the News at the Ripken Foundation!

In the News at the Ripken Foundation!

Check out the In the News section on the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s Webpage, http://www.ripkenfoundation.org/news.php and scroll to the August 3rd entry!  The Ripken Foundation  asked us to send in an article and pictures of the silent auction and 5K, but we never imagined that they would be posted front and center on their main webpage!

To give you an update on the progress of the field:  To date, $65,000 has been raised for the field.  The Ripken Foundation and the East Wilco Challenger League of Hutto are working hard on grant applications, sponsorships, etc. to raise the remaining $285,000 to make this All Ability field a reality in Central Texas.  If you have some time, go to http://www.ripkenfoundation.org/ydpark.php and check out the many cities that the Ripken Foundation is impacting.  It’s amazing all that they have done to help children with special needs and disadvantaged youth through these fields and the game of baseball!  It takes time (sometimes years!) to complete projects like this, but both the Ripken Foundation and the EWCL are committed to seeing this project completed for the youth in our area.

Our group was blessed to be able to raise money in memory of Samantha for this awesome cause.  We are grateful that there are groups like the Ripken Foundation and East Wilco Challenger Sports that we can support!

And the numbers are in!!

And the numbers are in!!

Dear sMilers,
We have some exciting news to share with you!  We will be sending a check, in loving memory of Samantha, to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in the amount of $15,000 to help build the All Abilities baseball field in Williamson County!  When the planning began at the beginning of the year, our goal was $3,500.  With your help and the Lord’s blessing, that goal was far surpassed!  We could not have done this without you.  Thank you.
The tentative date for the 2013 sMiles 4 Sammy 5K is May 25th.  We hope to see you there!
Every day is a gift!

Thank you for participating in our 1st Annual sMiles 4 Sammy Fun Run & 5K!  Proceeds from the race will be used to help build an all abilities baseball field in Williamson County for children with special needs. The sMiles 4 Sammy Team was created in loving memory of Samantha Scott.  She lived for 10 months with trisomy 18, a condition considered incompatible with life.  Sammy taught her family and those around her that every day is a gift and that you don’t have to be old or famous to make a difference.  Riding in her jogging stroller was one of Samantha’s favorite things to do…she traveled many miles in her stroller and smiled the whole time!  sMiles 4 Sammy as the team name just seemed perfect!  We are excited to hold this race to honor the life that Samantha lived!

Run, jog, walk or stroll to raise money to build an all abilities baseball field right here in Williamson County for children with special needs!  The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation has pledged $50,000 for this project, the City of Taylor has donated land for the field in their sports complex and all proceeds from this event will be used to help with the remaining cost of the field.

This year’s fun run will include a timed option for the serious runner.  Serious runners will complete their 5K on a course around Vista Ridge High School and Henry Middle School.  The untimed runner, walker, and/or stroller will use the same course or may use the track if a shorter route is preferred.  Any youngster (or the young at heart) that is registered for the race is invited to participate in the 1K Ranger Trek with the Ranger athletes following the 5K!  Come have some family fun and help us to raise money for a great cause!
